All Wales Police data
Police-related research within the SAIL Databank has historically relied on project-specific data extracts from individual police systems, largely due to the sensitive nature of the topics involved.
Progress has been made with all four Welsh police forces - South Wales Police, Dyfed-Powys Police, Gwent Police, and North Wales Police - via their Chief Constables and Commissioners, with a current projected acquisition into SAIL Databank of 2026.
Formal approval has been secured from all four Welsh police forces - South Wales Police, Dyfed-Powys Police, Gwent Police, and North Wales Police - via their Chief Constables and Commissioners, to begin acquiring police data for integration into SAIL Databank.
Looking ahead to the next ADR UK funding period, beginning in March 2026, work is underway to develop a single, linked All Wales Policing dataset. This will involve continued planning around data content, governance, public engagement, and technical infrastructure. Once established and subject to appropriate governance approvals, the dataset will be linkable to other sources such as Ministry of Justice data, enabling more comprehensive research into policing and justice across Wales.
