Administrative Data | Agricultural Research Collection (AD|ARC)

AD|ARC was launched in 2020 to create the first UK-wide research data collection focused on agriculture. It enables researchers to better understand the people who work and live on farms in the UK, and the challenges they face.  

Now in its second phase, the project is developing an updated and expanded collection, which will include linkages to Census 2021 data (Phase one links to the 2011 Census), Rural Payments Agency data, June Survey of Horticulture and Agriculture, and the Inter-Departmental Business Register. Together with environmental open data, this will enable research into the characteristics of farm businesses and households in the current climate.  

Collectively, Phase two data will support policy-relevant insights in the context of a series of significant policy and environmental challenges - such as engagement with agri-environmental schemes, post-Brexit policy changes, and rising costs leading to tighter profit margins.  

The research-ready datasets are accessible separately within the Office for National Statistics Secure Research Service for England, and will be made available via the SAIL Databank for Wales.
