Office for National Statistics
Office for National Statistics (ONS) priorities for the coming year will continue to centre on expanding the datasets available through our Secure Research Service (SRS). Work will also focus on improving researcher experience, as well as enhancing and maintaining the platform - the UK’s largest trusted research environment.
Collaboration with ADR UK and other government departments will continue to support access to high-quality administrative datasets for research in the public good. The implementation of the Project Accreditation Service for SRS (PASS) will strengthen efforts to streamline access for accreditation, while new and refreshed datasets will further enhance research and analytical opportunities within the SRS.
Supporting research projects
ONS will provide ongoing support for ADR UK Research Fellowships and PhD studentships, complemented by targeted engagement activities which include cohort events and webinars. This ensures researchers are well equipped to maximise the potential of ADR UK flagship datasets.
Events and community engagement
Several major events are planned for late 2025. The ONS-led Research Excellence Awards and Research Capability 2025 will continue to serve as important platforms to showcase innovation, highlight impactful research, and bring together the research community and partners across government. ONS will also take part in the ADR UK Conference, contributing to crucial and timely discussions on harnessing administrative data to improve lives.
Upcoming research-ready datasets
Upcoming ADR UK-funded research-ready datasets, expected to be made available to all accredited researchers during 2025 and 2026, include:
- Phase 2 of the Administrative Data | Agricultural Research Collection
- Kids’ Environment and Health Cohort
- Dynamics in Private Pensions
- Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings linked to Migrant Workers Scan.
