ADR England will collaborate with these departments to define programmes of work, bringing in academic partners to bolster capacity and expertise. This will ensure flagship datasets are maintained and enhanced over the course of the investment, facilitating the academic community to do meaningful and policy-relevant research. This will include improving the quality of both documentation and data and creating synthetic data, as well as supporting researchers through training courses, resources, and communities of practice.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) will continue to work as a major partner, ensuring that ADR England data is ingested into the secure environment and researchers receive an ever-improving service from the ONS Secure Research Service.

Expanding research opportunities and datasets

ADR UK will continue to support research fellowships using ADR England flagship datasets, with the next opportunity launching in autumn 2025. Alongside the existing flagship data, two new datasets are expected to be included - the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings linked to Migrant Worker Scan data, as well as UK-wide linked income and benefits data from the Department for Work and Pensions and HMRC.

In addition, the coming year will see the emergence of other newly-available ADR England datasets, including the Kids’ Environment and Health Cohort being made available to accredited researchers in the ONS Secure Research Service.

Building capacity and fostering collaboration

The ADR England Research Community Catalysts will continue to build the capacity of their communities: Youth Transitions and Children at Risk of Poor Outcomes. They will use ADR England flagship data to answer questions in their research agendas. They will also make use of additional co-funding from the Economic and Social Research Council to build the capacity of researchers to do more evaluation of public policy.

Training and capacity building priorities will be shaped for the next investment phase, reinforced by a shared approach to learning across the four nations. Learning from our community building activity across ADR England, ADR UK will also be supporting a cohort of community leaders over the year ahead. This initiative will trial new approaches to connect people around ADR England data. The ADR England Public Insights Panel will continue to engage with and shape work across the portfolio.

The team will further develop the innovations ADR England has delivered this year, including creating new communities of practice, where researchers can learn from each other and collaborate on research agendas.
